Why this course

Because reading a translation isn't the same as understanding the ayah.

Apps and self-study are a fine place to pick up words, but they're not built to get you from "I recognise some vocabulary" to actually parsing a sentence and following what it means as you read it. That takes structure, correction, and someone to actually speak with. That's what the live class is for; the platform is what makes the practice between classes stick.

From fintech to full-time Arabic teaching

I spent over ten years working in fintech. For a good part of that time I was also teaching Arabic on the side, fitting classes in alongside the day job. Eventually the balance tipped, and I left fintech to teach Arabic full-time. It wasn't a break from a career I disliked so much as bringing the same rigour and attention to detail to something I cared about more: helping adults get to the point where they can genuinely read and understand the Qur'an themselves.

Between those part-time years and full-time since, I've been teaching Arabic for 7+ years now, and building the curriculum behind it, including everything on this site's learning platform, from the graded chapters through to the conversation practice.

My own Arabic journey started at UCL, where I studied Economics with Arabic. That's where I first got into the language properly, and I built on it afterwards: studying abroad in Morocco, working through online grammar courses, and drawing on a wide range of other resources over the years. This course is really the product of all of that, the methods that worked for me and the gaps I had to go and fill myself, brought together in one place.

I'm based in Manchester, UK, and the course is taught entirely online and live, so it doesn't matter whether you're down the road or on the other side of the world. You're in the same class either way.
